Shopify DDP Apps for EU Shipping: What They Do and What They Cost

---

DDP — Delivered Duty Paid — apps promise the same thing: your customer pays one price, you handle the rest. For EU shipping in 2026, "the rest" now includes the €5-per-line customs duty (up from €3 in July). The apps haven't changed; the cost underneath them has.

What DDP apps do

FunctionWhat it does
Duty/VAT calculation at checkoutEstimates duties-included pricing per destination
Label generationCreates DDP-compliant shipping labels
Carrier integrationTies to carriers with EU clearance support
Cost pass-throughRolls expected duties into the price or your margin

The 2026 problem with DDP math

DDP apps calculate charges from duty tables. Two things went wrong in 2026:

1. The €3 per-line duty (July 2026) — per declaration line, not per order. Apps built on per-order or per-parcel models underestimate multi-line orders by 2–4×. 2. The €5 rate (November 1, 2026) — a 67% jump. If your DDP app or your pricing still uses July numbers, you're under-charging customers and eating the difference.

The result: stores shipping DDP in 2026 are quietly losing the gap between what the app estimated and what the border actually charged.

How to use a DDP app without losing money

1. Know your average lines-per-order. This number, not "€3 per parcel," determines your real duty cost. DDP apps won't show it to you. 2. Re-verify your app's duty tables. Does it know the €5 rate and the €2 Union Handling Fee? Ask before you trust it. 3. Watch the refund path. DDP app fees on refunded orders are often non-refundable — a double cost when customers return. 4. Audit estimates vs. reality. Pull actual carrier invoices and compare against what the app charged customers. The gap is your hidden margin leak.

When DDP apps are worth it

Yes, if: you sell high-AOV products, your EU conversion suffers at the door, and you can reprice for the real per-line cost.

No, if: you're high-volume/low-margin, or your multi-line rate is high and no one has audited the true cost.

The bottom line

DDP apps automate the workflow — they don't fix the math. The €5-per-line regime means you need to know your actual declaration-line exposure before you trust any duties-included pricing.
