Best Shopify App for EU Customs 2026: What to Look For Before You Install

---

The EU's 2026 low-value import reform created a new category overnight: Shopify apps for EU customs. Some are calculators. Some are HS code databases. Some audit your actual orders. All depend on getting the HS code right.

They are not the same product, and picking the wrong one wastes money and leaves you overpaying.

First, what problem are you solving?

Every EU customs app solves one of three problems. Know yours:

ProblemWhat you needWhat to check
"I don't know the rules"Information / calculatorDoes it include the €5 November rate and the €2 Union Handling Fee?
"My HS codes are wrong"HS code lookup / classificationHow big is the database? Does it cover your product categories?
"I'm paying too much and don't know where"Order auditDoes it scan your actual Shopify orders, or just estimate?

Most sellers' real problem is the third one — and most "EU customs apps" don't solve it. They estimate fees; they don't find overcharges.

What to look for in an EU customs app

1. Current rule accuracy

The rules changed on July 1 (€3 per line) and change again on November 1 (€5 per line). An app that still shows only IOSS or pre-2026 rules is useless — worse, it's dangerous, because it tells you your costs are lower than they are.

Check: does it apply €3, €5, and per-declaration-line math correctly? Does it know the €2 fee applies above €150 too?

2. Real order data vs. formulas

Ask: does this app read my Shopify orders, or does it ask me to type numbers into a form?

  • Form-based calculators give you estimates. Fine for pricing, useless for finding real overcharges.
  • Order-scanning audits review actual declarations, line structures, and HS codes. This is where savings come from.

3. HS code coverage

The audit is only as good as the classification data behind it. Check whether the app:

  • Covers your product categories (dropshipping staples, apparel, electronics, etc.)
  • Flags missing or generic HS codes (the #1 cause of customs holds)
  • Suggests HS6 grouping to merge lines and cut fees

4. Honest pricing

  • Per-order fees on high-volume stores add up fast
  • Free audits that upsell are fine — check what the paid plan actually audits vs. the free tier
  • Watch for apps that charge for "HS code databases" you can access free elsewhere

How DutyRight fits

DutyRight is built for the third problem: it audits your Shopify order history against current EU rules — multi-line overcharges, wrong HS codes, €3/€5 exposure, and HS6 grouping savings. Not a calculator you fill in — an audit that reads your real orders.

Start with a free audit and see what your store is actually paying.
